Stevens County (population 43,496) is named for Washington's first territorial governor, Isaac Stevens. The County is one of the largest lumber producing counties in the West. The southeastern part of the County is a bedroom community of Spokane. Colville has many large and small manufacturers with national reputations and markets, such as Boise Cascade, Hewes Marine, Colmac Industries, Vaagen Brothers and Hearth and Home.

The county has significant farming, recreation and skiing opportunities. Its western boundary is the Columbia River and its northern boundary is Canada. Cities are Colville (population 4,675), Chewelah (population 2,606), Kettle Falls (population 1,597), Hunters (population 306) and Northport (population 295). The Spokane Indian Reservation occupies the southwestern portion of Stevens County and operates casinos. The Colville National Forest and Little Pend Oreille Wildlife Area are located in the County.
